On The Look Out: Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang is probably the most talented young designer in Fashion right now. Wang who heads his own self titled clothing line is also the head designer of legendary fashion house Balenciaga. He's even been crowned the next Marc Jacobs, which is legit (In my opinion). Wang has been making fashion headlines lately, with his decision to move his Fall/Winter 2014 New York Fashion Week show to the Brooklyn Navy Yard this season, a first ever during New York Fashion Week. Many buyers, writers, and other media outlets are not to excited about his move from Pier 94 in Manhattan (where he usually shows) to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, but with Wang being the most anticipated designer to see during Fashion Week this season, they don't have a choice. Take a look at Wang's women's Spring 2014 and his men's Fall 2014 below.

Phily's Own: Ian Alexander Spotlight

Ian Alexander's self titled clothing line caught my attention on Instagram months ago. The creativity and  construction in his clothes are what makes them stand out. I definitely think Ian is a talented designer on the rise, with more great things to come. He's been featured during Philadelphia Fashion Week, and is set to show his line again at The Philadelphia Wine Mixer on February 7th. The event will be held at the African American Museum, it's a event that brings Artists of all kinds together in Philadelphia area. Take a look below to see some of Ian's work.

Rebecca Minkoff The Underdog

A designer I'm really anticipating to see during this upcoming New York Fashion Week is Rebecca Minkoff. She's a very talented designer who sometimes falls under the radar among outsiders of the fashion industry. Her Spring/Summer collection during last seasons New York Fashion Week was stellar, featuring boho chic, and very edgy looks. It was One of my favorite shows mainly because the creativity of the clothes and the styling. I hope it only gets better for the fall collection. Here are some of my favorite looks from Rebecca Minkoff Spring/Summer 2014.

Umit Benan

Turkish designer, Umit Benan recently made two statements during his Fall/Winter show at Paris Mens Fashion Week. Number one was basing his collection off the story of Jackie Robinson, the first African-American ever to set foot in the MLB.  Number two was probably for the first time ever during any show in Milan, Paris, New York, or London, every single model that walked down the runway was BLACK, not just mixed, but yes black. Most weren't even models, as designer Umit Benan generally goes for "Real Men", sometimes from off the street, as opposed to agency represented models, which probably makes him more down to earth and more interesting (to me at least). I personally think this is huge, being that there's no secret that the fashion industry isn't widely diverse. It's already slim pickings for black female models, and even slimmer for black male models.  The collection featured very upscale sports wear, varsity like jackets and sports coats, neutral colored pants, and vibrant ties (Great Collection).

DVF 40th Anniversary of the Wrap Dress

The iconic women and designer herself, Diane Von Furstenberg recently unveiled her 40th anniversary of the wrap dress exhibit "Journey of a Dress" which is on display at the Wilshire May Company Building in Los Angelas, CA. Diane has always been an advicate for making women feel sexy, and empowered while wearing her signature DVF brand wrap dresses. " I made a dress that was immortal. That dress taught me about women, confidence, designing. I owe everything to that dress" says Diane in a recent interview. I've always been a big fan of this brand, the creativity as well as the signature style is inspiring. What I love most about Diane Von Furstenberg is that like her brand she's timeless, and no matter what trends are dominating the runways,DVF always sticks to the signature fun, sexy, and sophisticated style.
