Weird or Stylish?

Is there really a difference between dressing weird or having style?  Who gets to determine if it’s stylish? And who determines if its weird?  I can answer the first question, the people that usually classify certain fashions as weird are the ones who wouldn’t do it or even think about doing it. I think it all depends on a person's individual sense of style that determines if it’s weird. For example, Lady Gaga wears some outlandish stuff and it could easily be classified as weird to everyday people since it’s not common for someone to wear in their everyday life.  Though, another person may think it’s stylish and look at is as being different or creative.  We say if you think it looks good then wear it!  People are going to judge whether it’s good or bad.  Be creative, explore your mind.  This picture of Rihanna, was on a blog titled "The worst outfit of the year" to me it shows creativity in a fun way. "Hey I can wear whatever and still look good."  Sometimes tradition's are made to be broken, some people like to create their own path.

Viva La Chanel!

Today marks what would be the 128th birthday of fashion legend Coco Chanel. Her name is forever noted in the fashion world because of her ability to make styles that were timeless. Making "The Little Black Dress" what it is today. Chanel believed in high fashion with a simplicity. Also starting androgynous fashions for women. Making it ok for them to wear pants, which at the time was only suitable for men. And of course we all know about her love for pearls. All of these statements remain timeless today. Famous for many quotes such as:
"the absence of color is absolute"
"a girl should be two things, classy and fabulous"
"in order to be irreplaceable one must always be different"

We love Coco Chanel!

Out & About

Over the weekend Secret Society had the pleasure of attending The Art Factor event at the Blick store downtown.

Beauty... Is it really skin deep?

Keeping up with the latest hair and makeup trends is fun. But if you have bad skin nothing can hide that. Everyone should have a daily skin care routine. But that doesn't mean you have to spend hours in the bathroom to achieve beautiful, healthy skin.

Just start with the basics: cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize. Wash your face when you wake up and before you go to bed. Choosing what kind of cleanser to use can be a little tricky. Be sure to read labels before purchasing anything to avoid products that contain alcohol or perfume. Use products that are made specifically for your skin type. You may have oily, dry, sensitive skin etc.

Exfoliate your skin 2 to 3 times a week to get rid of dead skin. - then moisturize. Just like your cleanser, you need to find a product that works well for you, as everyone's skin is different. Always apply sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher when planning on being outdoors for a long period of time. Ultraviolet rays from the sun can cause wrinkles, early aging, & dryness, which none of us want.

Your diet also has an affect on your skin. Fried, greasy foods, & carbonated drinks can cause breakouts. And there's nothing worse than waking up to a huge pimple on your face! When this does happen, before bed just apply toothpaste to the pimple, leave it on for about 30-45 minutes, then rinse with warm water. When you wake up in the morning the pimple will be reduced in size and hardly noticeable. You should always eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and drink lots of water. Green tea and salmon also have a lot of the nutrients needed for healthy skin. Maintaining a good beauty regimen definitely pays off!

Redbone vs Kelly Rowland

Will someone please put an end to this light skin vs. brown skin trash. Why must African Americans be prejudice to one another? Why? It’s one thing to have a preference of how you’d like your significant other to look, but it has gone way beyond that to the point were light skin people get put on a pedestal. Like light skin automatically means your attractive. The idea that skintone is what makes you attractive is just unfathomable to me. I see ugly people everyday, black, white, indian, all different complexions. How dark their skin is definitley plays not a near role in the ugliness. Rappers talk about “redbones” and the next thing you know the world is brainwashed. The redbones and the Kelly Rowland's are both beautiful if you ask me...
